Trial Athletes - 2023/24

Are you interested in athletics and finding out more about Coburg Little Athletics? Read on to find out more about how you can do this.

Trialling throughout the season

If you are not able to attend the Trialling Athlete day (16th September 2023), new athletes are still welcome to attend a competition day during the season and join in with our athletes to get a good feel for what athletics is all about.

If you would like to do this, please do the following:

Step 1: Register with Little Athletics Victoria for the Trial Athlete offer which allows you to attend for 2 weeks for free before you join for the season.

Step 2: Sign up for a session by Thursday before the Saturday session you will be trialling at to confirm your attendance - https://aus01.safelinks.protec...

If you can’t make the trial day contact clacreg@gmail.com for more information on trialling during the season.

Please note:

 - that your child will not be able to participate unless both of these steps have not been undertaken

- no times/throws/jump results are officially recoded until athletes are fully registered.

FAQs for trialling athletes

Does my little athlete need to wear anything special? No, just runners and comfy active wear. But once you decide to join you will need to purchase a club uniform. Don't forget a hat for the sun, of course!

When does competition start and end each week? Events start at 8.30am and we recommend you get to the track by 8.15am. Events run until 12pm at the latest, but timing depends on a range of factors so this is approximate. There is always something to watch to keep everyone entertained. Younger age groups typically finish by 10:30 ish.

How much does Little Athletics costs? Fees are made up of a Little Aths Vic and Centre fee ($170 - held the same as 2022/23) plus club fee and top, which varies from club to club. All up the cost is around $220 per athlete (with club discounts for 2 or more children).

How do I know which club to join? It is your choice - it could be where you have friends, the colour of the uniform, or where you live. All of our clubs are great and the children from all clubs mix within their age groups - there is no wrong choice.

Do I have to volunteer? Yes, little athletics is entirely run by volunteer power. This includes each club, out on the field and in the canteen, set up in the morning and pack up at the end of the day. But no job is onerous, hard or complicated and can be picked up as you go. It is a really great way to give back, get to know people at the Centre and to get to know more about the sport. There are even opportunities to volunteer by entering results on a Saturday afternoon from the comfort of your couch if you would prefer.

My child has disabilities or might need me there with them? We are an inclusive and child centric sport. We want your child to have the best experience and for you to feel comfortable and supported. We encourage you to speak to your Club and/or a Centre committee member about how we can support you and your child during the season, whether that be being on the field with them at all times, allowing them extra time to prepare, or anything else you and they might need.
