Why Coburg Little Athletics Centre

Coburg Little Athletics is a centre that is focused on Fun, Family and Fitness. We offer an organised program of events, a great coaching program and a friendly and inclusive environment for all our athletes.

Our events

Depending on the age of athletes, they can compete in a range of events including short and middle-distance races, walks, throws - such as shot put, discus and javelin - and triple, long and high jump.

Our season calendar and weekly programs are published on the Season-Events page.

Club Structure

The Coburg Little Athletics Centre (CLAC) Committee is responsible for the overall operation of the Centre. However, within our centre we have the following member clubs:

- Moreland (Orange)

- St Olivers (Green)

- Newlands (Yellow)

- Westbreen (Red)

- Coburg West (Purple)

- Pascoe Vale (Blue)

The club structure is an important part of our history. It's a good way to break down the management of parent volunteers on a Saturday and make sure athletes get to the right place at the right time. It's also a great way to introduce a little bit of friendly competition between the children. Our clubs take responsibility for particular events and/or administrative duties at our Centre. Each club has its own organisational structure and committee, and its own system of awarding trophies to its member athletes. At Coburg, your main contact is with the club.

When you join Little Athletics at Coburg, you can choose which club to join. Some choose based on friends who already attend Little Athletics, some on where they live or where they go to school and some just because they like the colours. If you don't have a preference we will often direct you to a smaller club (Club size can vary from year to year.).

How to join or register for a free trial

Registrations are handled centrally by our state body Little Athletics Victoria. To register for a free trial check out our Trial Athlete page.

As part of the registration process, we will need to sight proof of age. This can be done with a birth date document, such as a birth certificate or passport. This only needs to be done once per athlete.

If you would like to come and try before you join, you can trial for two weeks for free. Please note that all trialling athletes, including friends and siblings, must register before they arrive at the track.

Our Fees

Our fees for 2023-24 are $170 (held from 2022/23) per athlete plus Club and uniform fees (costs differ for each club).

Families will not pay any additional fees for 4 or more registered athletes.

Committee Members and Parent Volunteering

Parents of registered athletes are expected to volunteer their time each week. Duty rosters are managed by a central roster set up on SignInGenius. TeamApp members receive a notification each week the new roster is open. We ask parents to sign up for volunteer spots as early in the week as possible, so we know where there may be gaps. Athletics is dependent on its volunteers to run the program each week, so please try and volunteer at least a few times a season to spread the load. Please see your club team manager for more information.

We offer officiating training for all parents. You are not expected to know all the rules and we provide a supportive environment with experienced volunteers at each event so parents can build their skills and confidence to be able to officiate in a variety of different athletic events.

Coburg Little Athletics is run by the nominated Centre and Club committee members.

Coburg and club committee members are regular parents who want to make a difference in their children's sporting club. We are a friendly group of parents who are always looking for more enthusiastic parents to join the committee. Does this sound like you? The Coburg Little Aths Committee (CLAC) meets on the third Wednesday of most months at 8 pm at the track clubrooms (or via Zoom). If you would like to learn more, please contact the Committee at coburglac@gmail.com.au.

The current committee is found by pressing this link. If you have any issues to raise, your first point of contact is your Club president or Team Manager, who will then elevate this to the Committee or relevant official.
